HAMILTON — Neighbour to Neighbour Centre plans to celebrate its 40th anniversary with a fall fair on Saturday, October 17, bringing a family gathering to its Athens Street location.

The organizer’s current listing sets the event for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 28 Athens Street. It is open to the wider community, not only people who use the centre’s services.

What is planned

The announced activities include a garage sale, pumpkin carving, a bouncy castle, a barbecue and activities for children.

To Do Canada lists admission as free. That listing does not say that every item for sale or every purchase at the fair is free.

This is a preview of the scheduled event, not a report from the fair. No attendance or fundraising result has yet been established.

Four decades of community support

Neighbour to Neighbour describes its work as addressing poverty through food access, education and family supports in Hamilton. Its programs include an emergency food bank, community meals and gardening, literacy and mathematics support, and counselling and settlement assistance.

The centre says it provides emergency food to about 1,700 families each month through in-person service and home delivery. That is the organization’s service figure, not an estimate of how many people will attend Saturday’s celebration.

Residents planning a visit can check the organizer’s event page for the latest information before heading out.
