The Northern Current welcomes disagreement, scrutiny and informed debate. Our discussion spaces exist to help readers examine the issues—not attack one another.
Accountability and Registration
Commenting requires a registered reader account. Registration helps create continuity and accountability, but it does not guarantee that a display name identifies a person’s legal identity. Readers remain responsible for what they publish.
Discussion Standards
- Address the issue and the evidence rather than attacking another reader.
- Do not post threats, harassment, hate speech, impersonation or deliberately false information.
- Do not publish private personal information about another person.
- Support factual claims with reliable sources whenever reasonably possible.
- Disclose relevant personal, political or financial interests when they materially affect a comment.
- Do not use comments primarily for advertising, fundraising, repetitive promotion or spam.
Moderation
Comments are reviewed before publication. The Northern Current may decline, edit for safety, close replies or remove material that violates these standards, creates legal risk or disrupts a constructive discussion. Moderation decisions are based on conduct, not political viewpoint.
Corrections and Challenges
Readers are encouraged to challenge our reporting with specific evidence. A correction request should identify the article, the statement at issue and the supporting information. Send requests to tips@thenortherncurrent.com.
Enforcement
Accounts used for repeated or serious violations may lose commenting access. Immediate restrictions may be imposed where necessary to protect readers, sources, staff or the integrity of the discussion.
