VANCOUVER — Pete Fry is projected to become Vancouver's next mayor after defeating incumbent Ken Sim, CityNews reported late Saturday following the October 17 municipal election.

The broadcaster reports that Sim conceded and offered to assist with the transition. Fry, a two-term councillor, thanked supporters and said his team would begin work on the city's challenges.

A change at City Hall

Fry and the Vancouver Greens campaigned on affordable housing, transportation, sustainable growth and community safety. Their proposals included using city land for affordable homes and expanding non-emergency outreach services.

Those are campaign commitments, not measures already enacted by a new administration.

Election-night call, not certified totals

The City of Vancouver confirms voting closed at 8 p.m. Pacific on October 17. Voters were choosing a mayor, councillors, Park Board commissioners and school trustees, and answering borrowing and plebiscite questions.

This report attributes the mayoral call to CityNews. TNC is not publishing a final vote margin, turnout figure or definitive council-seat total while election-night returns remain incomplete.
