SURREY, B.C. — Doug McCallum is projected to return as Surrey's mayor after defeating incumbent Brenda Locke in Saturday's municipal election, CityNews reports.

The broadcaster reports that Locke conceded following the October 17 vote. McCallum ran with the Safe Surrey Coalition; his previous periods as mayor were 1996–2005 and 2018–2022.

CityNews reports that McCallum thanked residents in his victory speech. Locke described serving as mayor as a privilege and told the broadcaster she was surprised by the outcome.

Election-night report, not certified totals

The City of Surrey says polls closed at 8 p.m. Pacific on October 17 and describes the election-night returns as preliminary. Totals are uploaded as voting locations finish tabulating, and its results site must be refreshed manually.

TNC is attributing the mayoral call and concession to CityNews. This report does not present a final vote margin, turnout figure or council-seat breakdown as certified. The city's official results page remains the primary place to check subsequent returns.
