HAMILTON — The Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame will celebrate its 2026 class on Thursday, October 22, at Carmen's Event Centre, with athletes, a championship team, an organisation, a journalist and volunteers sharing the recognition.
The organiser's current listing says doors open at 11 a.m. and the induction luncheon program begins at noon. The class was announced June 3; this is a preview of next week's ceremony, not a new selection announcement.
The full 2026 class
The Hall of Fame lists seven induction entries:
- Jimmy Howard — athlete, motor sports.
- John Barrow — athlete, football.
- Kevin Rempel — athlete, para ice hockey.
- Steve Milton — builder, media.
- The 1978 Hamilton Cardinals — team, baseball.
- Hamilton Olympic Club — organisation, track and field.
- Ian and Ruth Giles — Sharon Garden Memorial Volunteer Award, golf.
Rempel's national-team record
Rempel appeared on CHCH's Morning Live on October 16 ahead of the ceremony. Hockey Canada's retirement announcement records his bronze medal with Canada at the 2014 Sochi Paralympics and gold at the 2013 world championship.
That December 2016 announcement says the Vineland, Ontario native joined the national team in 2010. It also describes his subsequent focus on community participation and helping others experience the sport. Those are historical career records, not a claim that he is on today's national-team roster.
The full class brings different parts of Hamilton's sporting history into the same ceremony, including competitive achievement, sports coverage, club development and volunteer work.
