Hamilton has paused filming permits in part of the Kirkendall neighbourhood near Locke Street South for six months while its Film Office reviews how productions affect residents, CHCH reported Wednesday evening.
In a statement provided to CHCH, the Film Office said the break would allow it to assess filming management, collect residents’ feedback and consider how to balance neighbourhood needs with production activity.
Residents describe benefits and disruption
CHCH’s October 21 report described differing experiences around Homewood Avenue. Some residents welcomed income from renting their homes or driveways to productions and the business activity filming brings. Others raised concerns about parking and access to their homes.
The report describes a neighbourhood pause, rather than a citywide halt. It does not specify the permit boundary or exact start and end dates; this report does not infer them.
What the existing guidelines require
Hamilton’s published filming guidelines require productions to notify affected residents and businesses. Neighbourhood consent may be required where filming has already occurred three times in a calendar year, for overnight activity or when the Film Office considers it necessary.
The guidelines also require productions to minimize disruption and preserve pedestrian and property access. These are existing general rules, distinct from the newly reported local pause.
