HAMILTON — The downbound lanes of the Claremont Access are scheduled to close for about 24 hours this weekend while crews resurface part of the road, the City of Hamilton says.

The closure is planned from 8 p.m. Friday, October 23, until approximately 8 p.m. Saturday, October 24, weather permitting. It covers the downward lanes between Inverness Avenue East and Hunter Street East.

Drivers should plan an alternate route

The City is advising motorists to use another route and allow extra travel time because delays are expected around the work area. Its notice identifies the downbound lanes as the closure area; it does not announce a closure of the upbound lanes.

As with other weather-dependent road work, the stated reopening time is an estimate rather than a guarantee. The City directs drivers to its road-closures page for current detours and schedule changes.

Resurfacing scheduled

The work is part of the City's road construction and maintenance program. The notice says the resurfacing is intended to renew aging infrastructure and improve road safety.

Drivers passing construction zones and detours are reminded to slow down, follow posted signs and leave space for road crews.
