(Toronto, Canada) – A father and his two adult daughters were shot during a home invasion in Toronto’s Bridle Path neighbourhood early Thursday, police said. A fourth family member was also injured, and three suspects fled in an SUV.
Officers responded to a home on Hyde Park Circle, near Bayview Avenue and Lawrence Avenue East, at about 3:43 a.m. on October 29. Four members of the family were taken to hospital.
In accounts of the morning police briefing published by CityNews, TorontoToday and The Canadian Press, investigators said three masked suspects entered through the rear of the home carrying guns and a hammer.
Police said the intruders demanded valuables. A struggle followed and shots were fired. One family member was struck with a hammer.
Two people were initially reported to have life-threatening injuries. In the later briefing, police described two victims’ injuries as life-altering; the other two sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
Investigators had not released suspect descriptions in the updates reviewed for this report. It remained unclear whether anything had been stolen.
Police are asking residents to examine home-security, doorbell-camera and dashcam recordings. Anyone with information can contact the Hold Up Squad at 416-808-7350.
The investigation remains ongoing.
