Good morning. I’m Lucy with The Northern Current for Monday, November second.

Canada and the United States are reporting movement in trade talks, but not a completed agreement. On Sunday, President Donald Trump described the concept of a possible deal. Prime Minister Mark Carney called their conversation constructive and said negotiating teams would work toward an agreement in the coming weeks. Trump said agriculture and the Keystone XL pipeline project were discussed. The details remain unsettled; this is not an announcement that tariffs have been lifted.

In Puslinch Township, police have released the ages and hometowns of four teenagers killed in a crash early Saturday. Their vehicle left Watson Road South, struck a guardrail and entered a ravine. Those killed were two nineteen-year-old men, from Mississauga and Brampton, a seventeen-year-old girl from Mississauga and a fifteen-year-old girl from Milton. Two girls survived. Police said the seventeen-year-old suffered life-altering injuries, while the sixteen-year-old had non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation remains ongoing.

In hockey, Nashville acquired Shane Wright from Seattle on Sunday in exchange for Matthew Wood. Wright was selected fourth overall in the twenty twenty-two NHL draft.

The Toronto Raptors lost one hundred and thirty-one to one hundred and twenty-five to the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday. Kawhi Leonard’s knee absence remains a concern for Toronto. The Raptors announced last week that swelling would keep him out for at least a week, with treatment and rehabilitation planned.

And humanitarian organisation CARE says the latest food-security assessment puts twenty-eight point eight million people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in acute food insecurity through December. The October thirtieth report links the crisis to conflict, displacement, disease and disrupted livelihoods. This assessment is not a declaration of famine throughout the country.

For The Northern Current, I’m Lucy. Have a good morning.
