Good morning. I'm Marcus. This is The Northern Current for Sunday, October twenty-fifth.
Hamilton votes tomorrow. The city says polling places will be open Monday from ten a.m. until eight p.m., and voters can use any voting location within their own ward. Bring identification showing your name and home address. You do not need a voter information card.
Advance voting has already surpassed the last municipal election. In its October twenty-first update, the city reported thirty-four thousand, nine hundred and ninety-six ballots cast, compared with thirty thousand, eight hundred and ninety-three advance ballots in twenty twenty-two. Those are early-voting totals, not election results. The ballots will be counted on election day.
Also in Hamilton, police announced Thursday that they had paused their use of Crime Stoppers while seeking more information about a reported cybersecurity breach and the safeguards protecting tipsters. Crime Stoppers operates independently from police. People can still contact Hamilton Police directly, but that does not provide the same anonymity as Crime Stoppers.
And in hockey, Montreal and Winnipeg head outdoors tonight for the Heritage Classic at Princess Auto Stadium. Field Level Media reports that the Canadiens enter after beating Chicago four-one on Friday, while the Jets are looking to end a four-game losing streak.
