TORONTO — A two-goal lead and Kirill Marchenko's hat trick were not enough for the Maple Leafs, who lost 5–4 in overtime to the Buffalo Sabres at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday, October 15.
Owen Power scored the winner at 3:14 of the extra period. Buffalo had trailed 4–2 after two periods before Dennis Gilbert and Mattias Samuelsson scored in the third to force overtime.
Quinn drives Buffalo's comeback
Jack Quinn finished with two goals and two assists. His overtime setup gave Power the opportunity to complete Buffalo's three-goal unanswered run.
Auston Matthews supplied Toronto's other goal. John Tavares contributed two assists before leaving early in the third period following a collision with Buffalo's Josh Norris.
Buffalo goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 26 shots. The comeback overturned what had been a strong scoring night for Marchenko and left Toronto with one standings point.
