Parks Canada expects workforce changes equivalent to roughly 500 full-time jobs, the agency told Cabin Radio, while 2,917 employees were to receive letters about their status.
The distinction matters: an affected letter is not a confirmed termination. In the October 22 report, the agency said some positions would remain, others would change and some would be eliminated, with decisions expected over the following weeks.
Cabin Radio reported concerns among Northwest Territories staff. Parks Canada said it was still validating regional numbers and described the changes as an effort to align operations with available funding.
The report said PSAC and its northern chapter did not provide immediate comment. TNC has not obtained the internal staff notices; the figures describe the agency’s reported plans, not a completed count of layoffs.
