ORILLIA — The Ontario Provincial Police will host the 2027 Special Olympics Ontario School Championships in Orillia, with more than 300 students and educators expected from across the province.

The official championships website confirms the host city and OPP’s role. Its page still contains older 2026 material alongside the 2027 announcement, so TNC is not treating the displayed competition dates as a verified 2027 schedule.

Support beyond race day

In an October 17 statement republished by Georgian Bay News, OPP also announced an ambassador partnership with Special Olympics Ontario. It proposes placements for up to 20 athletes at detachments, combining workplace experience, mentorship and community involvement. The announcement does not establish that these are paid positions or that placements have already begun.

OPP reported just over $40,000 raised by the Guardians Run that day. The event’s own schedule places the run at OPP headquarters in Orillia on Saturday, October 17, 2026; older fundraising totals elsewhere on that website should not be confused with this year’s result.

Organizers are inviting volunteer, sponsorship and fundraising interest as planning for the school competition proceeds.
