(Toronto, Canada) - Ontario says its primary-care plan has connected more than 511,000 additional people to a family doctor or primary-care team, citing attachment figures current to May 31, 2026.
The government released the update October 26. The reporting window means that headline figure is not a count of attachments made this autumn.
Separately, the province says more than 470,000 people have been cleared from the Health Care Connect waitlist since January 2025. The release does not establish that these are two separate groups; the figures should not be added together.
A goal still ahead
Ontario describes its $3.4-billion, multi-year Primary Care Action Plan as on track to connect everyone to primary care by 2029. That remains a government target, rather than an outcome already achieved.
The release reports connections to doctors or primary-care teams. It does not establish that every person counted has a dedicated family physician.
