Updated October 24: Added the interior minister’s reported missing-person and construction-worker figures.
Rescuers were searching for seven people reported missing after a building under construction collapsed in Nairobi’s Eastleigh district on October 23, AFP reported.
Kenyan Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen said 11 ground-floor and basement shops were occupied when the structure fell. AFP quoted him as saying seven people had been reported missing.
The minister said 66 of 67 construction workers escaped unharmed and one was injured. Those worker figures and the missing-person count describe different reported groups; they should not be added together as a casualty total.
The cause of the collapse remained unclear. Missing does not mean confirmed dead, and this report does not establish a death toll.
