MANITOBA — Provincial public-health officials declared Manitoba’s measles outbreak over effective October 16, saying the last laboratory-confirmed infection was identified in August.

The province’s closing bulletin counts 1,038 cases since the outbreak began in 2025: 931 confirmed and 107 probable. These are outbreak totals, not new October infections.

Hospital burden included young children

Officials reported 52 measles-related hospitalizations, including six intensive-care admissions. Half of those hospitalized were younger than 10. No deaths were reported.

The bulletin says 87 per cent of cases involved people who were unimmunized or whose vaccination status was unknown. Unknown status is not confirmed non-vaccination.

Temporary infant eligibility ends

The province is withdrawing the outbreak-specific eligibility for vaccination of children aged six to under 12 months in affected regions. Routine Manitoba eligibility resumes, with the first dose recommended at 12 months or older.

Officials still urge vaccination and travel precautions; the declaration is not global eradication.
