OTTAWA — Air Canada and United Airlines announced six Canada–U.S. routes for summer 2027 on October 16, as Transport Canada opened consultation on their proposed expanded joint business arrangement.

October 16 update: The carriers’ newly published route plans have been added to this consultation story. Its original publication date and address are retained.

New connections planned for next year

Air Canada plans Toronto–Louisville service from April 28, increasing to daily flights in May. Its schedule also lists daily Montréal–Indianapolis flights from June 1 to September 30 and four weekly Edmonton–Newark flights from June 1 to October 17.

United plans seasonal Newark–St. John’s service and new Denver links to Ottawa and Québec City. The announcement also identifies added capacity on existing routes. These are future service plans, not flights already operating under today’s announcement.

A review, not an approval

Transport Canada’s public consultation runs from October 16 through November 15. The proposed agreement would extend coordination of fares, schedules, marketing and capacity, alongside revenue sharing, to routes currently outside the arrangement.

The airlines say renewal and expansion remain subject to regulatory approvals. Their route announcement does not establish approval of the amended agreement or demonstrate that any particular passenger’s fare will fall.

Officials will assess public-interest considerations and possible effects on competition. The department invites views on approval, conditions or rejection, and on regional, community and rights-related considerations.

The official consultation page provides submission instructions. No closing clock time is specified.
