Good morning. I’m Lucy with The Northern Current for Thursday, October twenty-second.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is in Türkiye for the first bilateral visit by a Canadian leader. He is due to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as Ottawa looks for trade beyond the United States. Türkiye made up less than zero-point-three per cent of Canada’s total merchandise trade last year, while nearly seventy per cent of Canadian exports go to the U.S. Any cooperation declaration remains to be confirmed after the meeting.

Overnight, Ukrainian officials reported new Russian missile strikes in Kyiv, including subway damage and at least fifteen people wounded. Kharkiv’s mayor reported one person killed and four injured. These are developing figures.

In Ontario, a records-based tally reported by The Trillium puts provincial government advertising above one hundred seventeen million dollars in 2025–26, a record. Campaign-level amounts still need reconciliation with final records and the Auditor General’s next review.

In Hamilton, the city launches its Hamilton Together anti-hate campaign today from four to five at City Hall. The focus is recognizing hate, reporting incidents and finding support.

In sport, the Maple Leafs host the New York Rangers tonight at seven Eastern. Morning-skate lineups and the starting goaltender still need confirmation.

In entertainment, Hudson Williams says he is writing an untitled film with a former hockey player. No title, collaborator or production schedule has been announced.

And in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian authorities say seven tankers were damaged or burning. The ships and cause were not independently verified as of this briefing. Oil prices rose more than two dollars.
