New York has begun a roughly year-long assessment of whether Lake Placid and New York City could jointly host the 2042 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. The state says this is not a formal bid.
The exploratory committee held its first full meeting October 19 at the New York Athletic Club in Manhattan, Governor Kathy Hochul’s office announced.
A study before any hosting decision
The group has nearly 90 members and is chaired by Olympic Regional Development Authority president and chief executive Ashley Walden. Its work will examine facilities, operations, financing, governance and community views.
Findings and recommendations will go to state leadership. New York says no final decision has been made to pursue hosting; the announcement does not award it the Games.
