A person was found dead inside a boat after a fire near Kingston’s Wellington Street waterfront on October 19, police said in an October 20 release.
Officers responded at about 2:45 a.m. near Doug Fluhrer Park. Police said a dry-docked boat and nearby trees were burning; firefighters extinguished the blaze at about 4:15 a.m.
Cause and identity under investigation
Kingston Police describe the fire as suspicious. They are investigating with assistance from Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal and Office of the Chief Coroner.
The release does not identify the deceased person or establish how the fire began. “Suspicious” is the police description, not a finding of arson or homicide.
Investigators are seeking witnesses and video from the Kingston Marina area. Information can be provided through the official release’s contact details; the case number is 26-36270.
