DUNDAS — A 12-year-old boy suffered serious injuries when a sedan and dump truck collided on Highway 5 Thursday morning, Ontario Provincial Police said.

Emergency crews responded at about 10:25 a.m. on October 15 between Brock and Middletown roads. OPP Const. Rob Tihor told CHCH News that the eastbound sedan was attempting to turn left when it collided with the westbound dump truck.

The 43-year-old driver of the sedan was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Her four children — a four-year-old girl, six-year-old boy, 10-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy — were also in the car. Police said the oldest child had to be extricated and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Dump-truck driver was not injured

Police said the 63-year-old woman driving the dump truck remained at the scene and was not injured. The reports reviewed do not identify any of the people involved.

Highway 5 was closed between Brock and Middletown roads while emergency crews responded and officers investigated. An OPP GTA Traffic post issued at 11:15 a.m. asked drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Police had not announced a charge in the reporting available Thursday evening. The investigation and police account do not establish legal responsibility for the collision.
