(Hamilton, Ontario) - A section of East 16th Street on Hamilton Mountain is expected to remain closed Monday while investigators examine a Sunday-night fire involving vehicles and a home.

Hamilton police say they arrested and charged a 30-year-old Hamilton man. The allegations have not been proven in court.

CHCH reports that emergency crews were called to the area between Inverness Avenue East and Mountville Avenue around 10:30 p.m. on October 25. According to the report, flames spread from a vehicle into the house and attic.

The residents escaped before firefighters arrived, and three cats were rescued, CHCH reports. The outlet says the Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.

Residents and drivers are asked to avoid the closed section while the investigation continues. Anyone with information can contact the on-duty Division 3 staff sergeant at 905-546-3886.
