LAS VEGAS — Mark Stone scored three consecutive goals in the third period as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Calgary Flames 6–2 Thursday night at T-Mobile Arena.

Stone’s natural hat trick was the second regular-season hat trick of his NHL career. Jack Eichel added a short-handed goal and two assists, while Ivan Barbashev recorded three assists for Vegas.

Vegas scored 25 seconds into the game

Brett Howden opened the scoring 25 seconds after the puck dropped. Eichel doubled the lead with a short-handed breakaway goal midway through the first period.

Jake Middleton pulled Calgary within one on a short-handed goal at 10:15 of the second, his first goal as a Flame. The response lasted 48 seconds before Braeden Bowman restored Vegas’s two-goal lead on the same Calgary penalty.

Stone took over in the third

Stone scored at 1:06, 12:09 and 16:13 of the third period. His first came from Eichel’s cross-crease pass, his second on a rebound and his third on another Eichel setup.

Matt Coronato scored Calgary’s second goal on a late power play. Dustin Wolf stopped 27 of 33 shots, while Carter Hart made 28 saves for Vegas.

Calgary falls to 1–6–0

The Flames have one win through seven games. The Golden Knights have won six of their past seven and improved their all-time home record against Calgary to 14–2–0.

Calgary’s official recap recorded 30 shots for the Flames and 33 for Vegas. It also credited Calgary with more five-on-five scoring chances, but Vegas converted both special-teams opportunities and pulled away in the third.

The Flames return home for a four-game stretch beginning Sunday against the Carolina Hurricanes.
