Canada and Ontario announced up to $105.8 million on October 23 for Essex County municipalities that reduce housing development charges.

The conditional infrastructure allocation includes up to $51.2 million for the county, which is eliminating its charges in 2026 and 2027. The announced schedule then reduces them by 75 per cent in 2028, 50 per cent in 2029 and 25 per cent in 2030.

LaSalle’s proposed share is up to $25.4 million for eliminating residential charges from March 30, 2026, through March 31, 2029, including the Reaume Sanitary Service Area.

The funding still requires a Canada–Ontario agreement, further government review and municipal transfer-payment agreements. The announcement does not establish that money has been paid or homes completed.
