DENVER — Sidney Crosby moved into seventh place on the NHL’s career-assists list on October 16, but Nathan MacKinnon’s four-point performance helped Colorado defeat Pittsburgh 5–2.

Crosby recorded assist No. 1,110. Pittsburgh’s official match report confirms he passed Joe Thornton for sole possession of seventh.

The milestone leaves Crosby one assist behind Ray Bourque’s 1,111 with Boston, the league record for assists with one franchise, according to The Associated Press. That is a different measure from the overall career list.

Colorado overturns early deficit

Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust put Pittsburgh ahead 2–0, scoring 29 seconds apart in the first period. Colorado answered with five consecutive goals.

MacKinnon finished with a goal and three assists; Artturi Lehkonen scored twice. T.J. Hughes added his first NHL goal, while Mackenzie Blackwood made 29 saves.

MacKinnon and Crosby are longtime friends from Nova Scotia.
