The White House has published an October 23 proclamation changing which Canadian products face an additional 50 per cent tariff, with the changes taking effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern on October 30.
Its annex removes specified packaging materials, plywood, refrigeration and agricultural sorting equipment from that duty. It also adds other products to the tariff list. The relief is selective, rather than a general exemption for Canadian exports.
The proclamation says these duties apply in addition to applicable Section 232 duties. Product descriptions are informational; the listed tariff classifications determine the scope.
What changed: This update adds the implementing proclamation, its effective date and the expansion of duties on other goods to TNC’s earlier coverage of Senator Susan Collins’s announcement.
