Christiane Amanpour plans to leave CNN in June 2027, with a staged reduction in her television commitments beginning before that departure.

The network’s chief international anchor announced the decision Monday, October 19. CNN’s own report, distributed by CNN Newsource, says she will continue reporting and travelling for the network through next June.

Two programs, different end dates

Her CNN International interview program will move to a weekly schedule in January 2027 and finish in May. Her PBS program, Amanpour & Company, will end in December 2026.

The announcement therefore does not mean Amanpour has already left CNN or that both programs end at the same time.

She intends to continue The Ex Files, the podcast she makes with Jamie Rubin, and said she looks forward to future projects. No specific new television role was announced in the reports reviewed.

A career that began at the assignment desk

The Associated Press reports that Amanpour joined CNN as an assistant in Atlanta in 1983 before becoming one of its best-known international correspondents. Her reporting has included the Gulf War and conflicts across several continents.

CNN chairman Mark Thompson said he and Amanpour had discussed the decision for months. He described it as the right time for her personally and professionally.

Amanpour’s statement did not identify a specific reason for leaving. The announcement should not be treated as proof of dismissal or an explanation tied to changes in network ownership.

In her statement, she urged colleagues to “always be truthful, not neutral.”
