Canada and New Zealand plan an annual Trade and Investment Dialogue, according to an October 20 release from New Zealand Trade and Investment Minister Todd McClay.

Senior officials would meet yearly, followed by an annual meeting of trade ministers. McClay described a forum for growing exports and addressing domestic and international trade issues.

A recurring forum, not a new tariff deal

The announcement establishes talks; it does not announce new tariff reductions. Both countries already belong to the CPTPP and World Trade Organization.

New Zealand’s government put two-way trade at NZ$3.46 billion for the year ending June 2026, including NZ$1.28 billion in Canadian exports to New Zealand. Those figures are in New Zealand dollars, not Canadian dollars.
