Barclays says it plans to eliminate around 5,000 jobs this year as it uses technology, including artificial intelligence, to lower costs, Reuters reported October 22.

Finance chief Anna Cross said 1,000 roles had already gone and the remainder would be cut by year-end. About 60 per cent of the reductions will affect support functions, including developers.
