POINT TUPPER, NOVA SCOTIA — Anthropic has signed a lease for data-centre capacity at EverWind’s planned Point Tupper development, Reuters reported October 16, citing a company executive. The Claude developer’s first Canadian data-centre agreement does not mean the facility is operating.

A staged investment, not a completed campus

EverWind’s October 16 release outlines more than C$8 billion for the campus and C$2 billion for Nova Scotia wind projects. Its release describes an initial-phase lease with a leading AI developer without naming the tenant.

The company targets 95 megawatts in late 2027 and another 325 MW in 2028, subject to commercial, technical and regulatory conditions. Its forecasts of roughly 2,000 construction positions and 215 operating positions cover both the campus and wind portfolio—not jobs already created.

Electricity and community commitments still matter

EverWind says it will pay project-attributable grid costs and protect local water resources. It says the expansion awaits system studies and approvals before grid connection. Those commitments are not an independent finding of no impact.

Talks with a First Nations consortium led by Membertou Development Corporation concern a potential ownership stake; the company does not describe that agreement as completed.

A national framework does not replace local approvals

Canada launched responsible data-centre development principles on September 3. They call for local benefits, protection against shifting electricity costs to other customers, lower environmental impacts, transparency and strategic value for Canada.

The federal announcement explicitly says the framework complements provincial, territorial, municipal and Indigenous regulatory processes. Signing on is not a substitute for those processes. Anthropic appears on the federal announcement’s signatory list.

The lease and proposed development are distinct from a completed, operating campus.
