(Welland, ON) - Firefighters rescued a person from a construction trench near Ontario and Plymouth roads on Sunday, October 25, CHCH reports.

Welland crews responded shortly before 2:30 p.m. and requested Niagara Falls Fire’s specialized trench-rescue team. Crews used an aerial apparatus to anchor a rope system and lifted the person out in a rescue basket.

The person was handed to Niagara EMS and Ornge for assessment and treatment. The report did not specify their condition. Fire officials urged people to avoid excavations and respect barriers.
