DELTA, B.C. — Two people died and two others were taken to hospital after a vehicle struck four pedestrians outside Tsawwassen Mills on Wednesday morning, Delta police said.
Prime Minister Mark Carney identified those who died as Elders of the Tsawwassen First Nation in a message expressing sympathy for the community.
Police said preliminary information suggested the driver may have experienced a medical emergency before the collision. The cause remains under investigation.
Walk halted; police report no ongoing threat
A Truth and Reconciliation Walk was taking place on First Nation lands. The emergency brought the event to an early end, but police said the collision was unrelated to the walk and there was no continuing public-safety risk.
The First Nation thanked emergency responders and community members who helped, while saying it would withhold further details out of respect for affected families and response efforts.
