(Truro, Canada) – Truro, Nova Scotia, will host the 2028 World Women’s Curling Championship for the first time, bringing an 18-team international tournament to the Rath Eastlink Community Centre from March 17 to 26.

World Curling and Curling Canada announced the selection November 4. Canada will participate as the host country. The decision establishes the location and dates for another Canadian edition of the championship, rather than announcing the teams or athletes who will ultimately compete.

The Canadian Press independently reported the announcement, confirming the venue and tournament schedule. Truro has previously staged Grand Slam of Curling events in 2015 and 2018, giving the community experience hosting elite curling, although this will be its first women’s world championship.

The Rath Eastlink Community Centre opened in 2013. Its facilities include an NHL-sized arena with a capacity of 3,100, alongside fitness and aquatic facilities and a climbing wall, according to The Curling News. The centre is also home to the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s Truro Bearcats.

In comments reported by The Curling News, World Curling competitions head Eeva Röthlisberger pointed to Truro’s record of hosting major events as a reason for confidence in the selection. Curling Canada chief executive Nolan Thiessen similarly emphasized the community’s curling history and the role of athletes, supporters and volunteers in delivering the championship.

The tournament will be the 20th women’s world championship held in Canada since the competition began in 1979. Canadian teams have won a record 19 titles, most recently when Rachel Homan’s rink captured the 2025 championship in Uijeongbu, South Korea. Nova Scotia last hosted the event in Sydney in 2024.

The confirmed Canadian host announcement comes while the location of the preceding championship remains under discussion. The Canadian Press reported that the 2027 women’s worlds are scheduled for March 13–21, with World Curling discussing holding that tournament in the United Arab Emirates. Those discussions are separate from Truro’s newly announced hosting award.
