STANDARD, ALTA. — Two injuries were reported after an incident at the CNRL plant near Standard on October 2, according to Wheatland County’s emergency update. One person was transported by STARS air ambulance.

The county says the incident was reported at approximately 5:38 a.m. Its 12:21 p.m. update states that it was under control, with emergency crews still on scene.

Evacuation area reduced

Residents within two miles of the facility were initially evacuated as a precaution. The county later reduced that zone to 500 metres, allowing residents outside the smaller area to return home.

People remaining within 500 metres were instructed to follow emergency personnel’s directions. Six fire departments attended, including crews from Standard and Calgary.

The county’s notice does not establish the cause or give a medical condition for either injured person. Readers should use the county’s latest notices for any subsequent changes to the evacuation area.
