TORONTO — Rogers Communications says it completed its acquisition of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment on October 1, purchasing Kilmer Sports’ remaining 25 per cent interest for $4.35 billion.

The transaction takes Rogers’ MLSE ownership to 100 per cent. Its holdings include the Toronto Maple Leafs, Raptors, Toronto FC and Argonauts, their affiliated NHL and NBA development teams, and Scotiabank Arena.

A new umbrella for Toronto sports

Rogers plans to establish a Rogers Sports business unit combining MLSE with its existing sports, media and entertainment operations, including the Toronto Blue Jays.

Keith Pelley remains MLSE president and chief executive, while Mark Shapiro continues in those roles with the Blue Jays. Pelley also assumes additional responsibility for Rogers Media.

The company promises investment in teams and the fan experience. Those are corporate commitments, rather than confirmed changes to ticket prices, broadcast subscriptions or team performance.
