Hamilton drivers should plan around a full weekend closure of the Red Hill Valley Parkway. The city says the parkway is closed in both directions between Mud Street and Barton Street from 10 p.m. Thursday, September 24, until 5 a.m. Monday, September 28, weather permitting.

Signed detour routes are in place, and HSR service will detour during the closure. The city advises motorists to expect heavier traffic on surrounding roads and to allow extra travel time.

Why the parkway is closed

The work combines roadway rehabilitation, safety improvements and general infrastructure maintenance. Hamilton says scheduling the projects over one extended weekend allows multiple crews and contractors to complete work that otherwise would require a series of daily or overnight lane closures.

The closure had originally been planned for September 17–21, but was moved to this weekend because of the weather forecast. The announced reopening time remains conditional on the weather. Travellers should check the city's road closure updates before setting out, particularly if their trip depends on the Monday morning reopening.
