(Gaza Strip, Palestine) – The UN human rights office has warned that repeated displacement, destruction and restrictions on shelter supplies are leaving Palestinians with less room to live and little prospect of returning home in Gaza.

The October 30 warning concerns recent military expansion and renewed displacement. It is separate from the UN commission report covered in TNC’s October 26 accountability update.

Families forced to move again

OHCHR said it had documented westward expansion of Israeli deployment areas over the preceding two weeks in Al Shujaiyeh in Gaza City, and eastern Al Bureij, Deir Al-Balah and Al Maghazi in central Gaza. It said Israel’s stated aim was to extend military deployment to 70 per cent of Gaza’s territory; that is a stated objective, not a verified measurement of current control.

The office described civilians being pushed into progressively smaller areas around the deployment boundary known as the Yellow Line. Its regional head, Ajith Sunghay, warned that many displaced people could not return because the areas they fled remained beyond that boundary.

A reported tent fire, not a new verified casualty toll

According to UN News, OHCHR received reports that an Israeli drone dropped munitions on tents at Al Shujaiyeh junction on October 25. The resulting fire reportedly burned for about five hours.

The Palestinian Ministry of Public Works and Housing said 200 families, comprising about 800 people, were displaced. Those numbers are the ministry’s estimate as relayed by the UN, not a count independently established by TNC. They should not be read as deaths or injuries.

Shelter and return

QNA’s October 31 account in Gulf Times also described the UN’s warning about restricted entry of shelter materials and families facing another winter in fragile tents. Anadolu reported the same statement on October 30. These reports corroborate the office’s published account; they do not provide independent field verification of every underlying incident.

OHCHR raised concerns about ethnic cleansing and called for an end to forcible transfers and for safe, dignified return. These are the office’s legal assessments and demands, not a new court judgment. The reports reviewed did not carry a specific Israeli response to the October 30 statement.

This story concerns Gaza, not the separate closures and displacement affecting Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. It is based on published documentation and regional reporting, not original TNC interviews or field reporting.
