(Ottawa, Canada) – Ottawa is warning sports teams and community groups about fraudulent emails offering priority reservations for sports fields and ball diamonds next season.

In an October 30 notice, the city said the message impersonates its Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services Department. Residents are advised to delete it and avoid clicking its links.

Gmail sender and unofficial link flagged

The city identified two warning signs: the sender uses a Gmail account rather than an address ending in ottawa.ca, and the included link does not lead to the city’s official website.

Anyone who followed the link and supplied personal or financial information should contact Ottawa Police Service at 613-236-1222, the notice says.
