Independent films, filmmaker conversations and live performances are taking over Kensington Studios this weekend as the Open World Toronto Film Festival holds its 11th edition.

The festival runs September 25–27 at 19 Kensington Avenue. Saturday's program begins at 11 a.m. with screenings, industry talks, performances and networking. Sunday's events begin at 4 p.m. and include films, live performances and a closing party. The organizer says the program is designed to let audiences meet the people behind the work, not merely watch it on a screen.

A weekend built around discovery

Alongside its film program, Open World includes filmmaker Q&As and industry conversations. The format gives emerging work a chance to find an audience and offers viewers a more direct way into the ideas and craft behind a production.

General admission is by donation, with registration available through the festival's Eventbrite link. Organizers advise visitors to consult the live program for individual screenings, talks and any schedule changes before heading to the venue. All listed times are local to Toronto.

For anyone looking beyond the usual multiplex choices, the weekend offers an accessible way to sample independent film and take part in the conversations around it.
