(Toronto, Canada) – Ontario’s new regulated electricity prices take effect Sunday, November 1, alongside winter billing periods and an Ontario Electricity Rebate of 15.7%.
What the winter rates mean
- Off-peak: 9.1 cents per kilowatt-hour, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays and throughout weekends and holidays.
- Mid-peak: 14.6 cents, weekdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- On-peak: 18.9 cents, weekdays from 7–11 a.m. and 5–7 p.m.
For residential customers using tiered pricing, the first 1,000 kWh each month costs 11.2 cents per kWh. Usage above that threshold costs 13.2 cents.
Check the whole bill
The regulator says electricity prices are decreasing year over year while the rebate is also shrinking. It says the overall pace of bill increases remains consistent with previous years. A lower commodity price therefore does not establish that a household’s total bill will fall.
Individual effects depend on consumption and the utility serving the customer.
