(Niagara Falls, Canada) - Ontario and OLG launched an investment call October 28 for Niagara casino expansion. First-phase responses are due December 3.
The province says the process initially allows up to three new operators. Shortlisted applicants would compete with detailed proposals. Each operator would need at least $1.5 billion in investment and a $100-million entrance fee; Ontario proposes a 9.75 per cent gaming tax.
Queen’s Park projects more than $3 billion in gaming investment and another $600 million across its Destination Niagara strategy over 20 years. These are government expectations, rather than completed investments or awarded construction contracts.
The process follows an agreement allowing competitors into a market previously covered by MGE’s exclusivity rights.
