LONDON, ONT. — A London police constable faces an assault-with-a-weapon charge after an internal investigation into pepper spray used following a woman’s arrest, the service announced October 2.

Police identify the accused as Brandon Mihalides, 29, and say he has been moved to administrative work outside operational policing.

The incident occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on April 29, 2026, after officers arrested a 33-year-old woman. According to the service, the required review of the spray deployment raised concerns and prompted a Major Crime Section investigation.

The charge is an allegation that has not been proven in court. Police list December 30, 2026, as the officer’s scheduled court date and say they will provide no further details while the case is before the courts. Their announcement does not include a response from Mihalides.

The new development is the criminal charge; the arrest itself took place in April.
