(Ningbo, China) - Canada’s Leylah Fernandez finished runner-up at the Ningbo Open after world No. 1 Elena Rybakina defeated her 6–2, 6–2 in Sunday’s final.

The October 25 result ended Fernandez’s attempt to add another title to the Singapore championship she won in September. Tennis Canada described Ningbo as her second final of this year’s Asian swing.

Rybakina completed the match in one hour and 16 minutes, according to the WTA. She broke Fernandez twice in each set and held serve throughout.

Fernandez had opportunities to disrupt that pattern. Tennis Canada’s match report says Rybakina saved all four break points she faced and converted four of her own five chances.

The Canadian reached the final after winning three matches that went to a deciding set earlier in the tournament. The runner-up finish also brought a ranking-points benefit: Tennis Canada says it was worth more points than winning the lower-tier WTA 250 event in Osaka, where Fernandez had been the defending champion.

For Rybakina, the successful Ningbo title defence was her fourth singles championship of 2026, following victories at the Australian Open, Stuttgart and the US Open. The WTA lists it as her 15th career singles title.

Fernandez’s next scheduled stop is the WTA 500 event in Tokyo, according to Tennis Canada.
