HAMILTON — Receiver Jaelen Gill is set to make his first CFL start when the Hamilton Tiger-Cats visit the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday, October 2, according to 3DownNation’s report on Thursday’s depth chart.

The 26-year-old has spent the season on Hamilton’s reserve or practice roster. The report says Friday would also mark his first regular-season game in professional football.

An opening in the receiving corps

Gill takes the place of Keric Wheatfall, who is out with an ankle injury. At five-foot-11 and 189 pounds, Gill brings college experience from Ohio State, Boston College and Fresno State.

He caught 49 passes for 516 yards and six touchdowns at Fresno State in 2023. Before joining Hamilton, his professional stops included the Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns and San Antonio Brahmas.

Hamilton announced Gill’s signing in April. Thursday’s depth-chart listing now puts him in line for his first opportunity in a CFL starting offence.
