Demonstrations over war and living costs brought clashes with police in Turin, Rome and Bologna on October 24, while Milan’s rallies remained largely peaceful, Reuters reports.

Shops closed as authorities reinforced security following the previous weekend’s unrest. Reuters witnesses reported seeing no looting or property damage during Saturday’s protests; that observation is not a comprehensive nationwide tally.

Police also reported detaining someone for questioning over an alleged organizing role in the earlier protests. Detention does not establish guilt.
