(Hamilton, Canada) - Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board plans to give secondary students access to Microsoft Copilot for Education through Microsoft 365 beginning November 3.
The board says teachers’ professional judgment will guide classroom use. It describes Copilot as support for learning, rather than a substitute for students doing their own work, and says expectations about disclosure and appropriate use should be explicit.
HWDSB says information entered will not train future models. It also tells students and staff not to submit private or personal information. Those are the board’s stated safeguards; they are not an independent security assessment.
The announcement describes a planned rollout, not access already operating.
