HAMILTON — A two-day YMCA walk from Brantford to downtown Hamilton raised $50,000 for the YMCA Men’s Residence and transitional supports, according to an October 2 CHCH report.
The third annual Long Walk Home covered 75 kilometres on October 1 and 2. The YMCA had set a $40,000 target for the event.
YMCA Hamilton | Burlington | Brantford president and CEO Manny Figueiredo told CHCH the total had reached $50,000 by Thursday night. The team completed the route Friday afternoon after walking from Brantford through Flamborough and Burlington to Hamilton.
Where the money goes
The YMCA says its downtown residence provides affordable housing and support services to more than 240 people annually. Figueiredo said proceeds help subsidize rent and services including health care, food security, clothing and employment preparation.
The fundraising result is based on the YMCA leader’s statement to CHCH; the organization’s official event material independently confirms the route, dates, distance and original goal.
