SPORTS — Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal’s training camp in Copenhagen amid a selection dispute with coach Jorge Jesus.

The 41-year-old confirmed his departure Wednesday after speaking with federation president Pedro Proença. Portugal said preparations would continue with 24 players. Ronaldo promised to explain his decision later; he has not announced his international retirement.

Selection dispute precedes departure

Jesus acknowledged Ronaldo’s frustration after leaving him unused in Portugal’s 2–1 win over Norway. The coach denied that Ronaldo had refused to train.

A Thursday Reuters follow-up, citing Marca, reported that Jesus and Proença unsuccessfully tried to persuade Ronaldo to stay at Copenhagen airport. That account remains attributed to Marca; the federation had not responded to Reuters’ request for comment.

What remains unresolved

The federation’s disciplinary rules allow suspensions for leaving without permission. The reporting does not establish that Ronaldo left without authorization or that a penalty has been imposed.
