MONTRÉAL — Jacob Fowler stopped every shot he faced through regulation, overtime and the shootout, and Zachary Bolduc scored in the sixth round as the Canadiens defeated the Detroit Red Wings 1–0 Saturday night.

Fowler and Detroit goaltender Daniil Tarasov each made 30 saves during the first 65 minutes. Because the game remained scoreless before the shootout, both were credited with shutouts — the second of each goaltender’s NHL career.

Three Montréal goals overturned

The Canadiens appeared to score three times before Bolduc’s deciding attempt, but none counted.

A first-period Cole Caufield chance was reviewed and ruled not to have fully crossed the goal line. Bolduc had a second-period goal waved off because Jake Evans interfered with Tarasov, and Alexandre Texier’s apparent overtime winner was overturned after an offside challenge.

Bolduc finally broke the deadlock by beating Tarasov five-hole. Fowler then stopped Nate Danielson, Detroit’s sixth shooter, to complete the win.

Fowler adds to an early-career mark

NHL.com says Fowler, at 21 years and 320 days, became the fifth Canadiens goaltender to record multiple shutouts at age 21 or younger. Montréal ended a three-game losing streak, while Detroit collected one standings point.
