(Montréal, Canada) – Canadiens defenceman Mike Matheson will be sidelined for two weeks with a lower-body injury, the team announced Saturday, October 31.
The club provided the update after an optional morning skate at the Bell Centre, ahead of its evening game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Montréal also changed goaltender Samuel Montembeault’s status to day-to-day.
Sportsnet reported that Matheson had returned to the lineup October 23 after missing four games with a lower-body injury. Whether the two injuries are related was not clear.
The 32-year-old has one goal and four points in eight appearances this season, averaging 23 minutes 45 seconds of ice time, according to Sportsnet.
The team’s two-week estimate does not establish a specific return game. Saturday’s announcement did not provide a more detailed diagnosis.
Montréal’s matchup against Pittsburgh is scheduled for 7 p.m. Eastern at the Bell Centre. No result is implied by the pregame update.
